Welcome back! Registration for Session 1 of the 2017-2018 school year is currently open.   Register by Tuesday, August 22nd and receive $5 off per class (prices listed reflect discount). Regular registration will end on Friday, August 25th. Classes will begin on  Monday, August 28th. Don't let your favorite classes fill up. Please email enrichment@encinoelementary.net if you have questions. Thank you for participating in our after-school enrichment program!

Please read these instructions before starting the registration process. 

1. Please choose your classes below, for one child only. You may choose more than one class for your student, but please make sure that they do not occur on the same day. The system will not correct you if you make this mistake.  NOTE:  You can search for classes by day if you enter the day of the week in the Search by field below.

2. To select a class for your child, please enter the quantity "1". Once you've made your selections, click "Continue" and enter all the required information for that child - name, teacher, afterschool program, etc. Please verify that you have entered your contact information carefully, because we will use it if we need to provide you with information about a class in which your child is registered.

3. Proceed to checkout and pay for classes using a credit card.  Do not combine your enrichment purchases with other website purchases.  If you are purchasing classes for more than one child, you must register and pay for each child separately.

Computer Programming (Monday 2:45-3:45)

Learn to code with Mr. Rodriguez! In this class, kids will learn how to use the Scratch programming language to create games and produce interactive presentations and more. Scratch, which was developed by MIT, is used to teach students the basics of programming. Kids will learn the fundamentals of programming using blocky code which will help them learn to think creatively and problem-solve. Students will also receive instructions on how to install and use the software at home.

Do you love the idea of developing a short story, screenplay, or memoir? Are you thrilled by the idea of polishing exceptional new pieces? Or, are you new to writing and looking to explore what this creative outlet has to offer? Join the Writopia Lab and engage in fun writing games while getting feedback from published writers as you complete one significant piece of writing in the genre of your choice (fiction, fantasy, science fiction, poetry, memoir, scripts, comics, graphic novels, humor, etc…). The workshop will culminate with students sharing their work with family and friends.

Do you like Captain America, Black Widow, Spiderman, and Hulk? OR do you prefer Superman, Batman, Flash, or Wonder Woman? We want to know who is better! Join Movies By Kids in this classic mash-up class where students will create and animate their own super hero movies using the art of stop-motion animation. Create your own Marvel or DC hero or super villain, then create the stories, film the movie, and become the voices for all the characters. By the end of class, you will have answered the question of which universe is better - Marvel or DC. All movies will be available to view and download at the end of the session.

Houdini's Magic Workshop (Tuesday 1:45-2:45)

Presto change-o! Following the Magician’s Code, students will begin their training as master magicians! This awesome class will allow children to become magic performers! Students will observe tricks and illusions, practice them and perform for each other. Students will learn and practice slight of hand, misdirection, and illusions using classic props. Students will develop their creativity and acting skills while performing their tricks in front of an audience of their peers. Each magician wil take home props to perform their tricks on friends and family! Young Ninjas: Spider Session (Tuesday 1:45-2:45)

For eons, people of the world recoiled in fear at the sight of a spider . But the truth is that a spider’s greatest skill is its patience. To earn your yellow headband you must display great patience, just like a spider does as it spins its web and waits for prey to approach. Students will participate in exciting martial arts games and activities that mix Tae Kwon Do, Karate, & Kung Fu with spider themes. All Young Ninjas receive an official YNUSA Color Headband to wear during class and a personalized Certificate of Achievement at the end of the session. Ki-yah!

Take a trip to the African savannah, where Disney's The Lion King! will come to life on the stage at ECES. Join Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle... and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale. Song highlights will include: To be King, Circle of Life, and of course Hakuna Matata. Students will combine their acting, singing, and dancing skills in this production. Performance is an ideal way for kids to discover their talents and learn the importance of taking direction, improving their ability to think critically, and use their imagination, all while having great fun! There will be a show for friends and family on the last day of class.
